Question:
Right now the lighting in downtown is minimal. Will the new lighting create a bright and safe
environment?
Answer:
The lighting will address the problem present today. The light poles will be placed 50 feet apart rather than the standard 100 feet. Also, the lamp head is designed to direct light down onto the sidewalks allowing us to control the direction of the beams.
Question:
Can we can arrange a demonstration of the lighting by installing one in the downtown area or by
presenting a case study of another area where this lighting has been used.
Answer:
A demonstration can be requested. Additionally, adjustments can be made to the lighting design to insure that
the downtown needs are met.
Question:
Will there be electrical outlets for outdoor uses?
Answer:
Yes, not only will you be able to use electricity outside but the light poles will also include a sound system. Electrial outlets near trees will allow them to be hung with lights for festive occasions.
Question:
There is usually very little time to cross the street. Can we extend the amount of time to cross
the street?
Answer:
The crosswalks will be marked with bump-outs in the sidewalk. The bump-outs reduce the distance to cross the
street. Traffic engineers can also work to extend the time if required.

any time.

conduit and streetscape beautification will begin.
Question:
Mason has a lot of character and history. Why can’t we stay with a historical theme instead of
changing everything and modernizing the downtown?
Answer:
Mason’s character has been built over 120 years and each building has been created in a different era. Since
each era has a separate identity, it would be unjust to pick just one. The committee believes that we should
respect the past as we move towards a future and therefore we should keep the historical integrity of the
buildings while creating a complementing but current environment.
Question:
How will downtown Mason’s economy change after the project is completed? Were there any studies
conducted to weigh the pros and the cons?
Answer:
When this project first began to take flight, market studies were conducted and it was their findings that
allowed us to move in this direction. It is anticipated that these renovations will create an awareness of new businesses that are looking for a new location. Mason staff will also work to attract destination businesses
that can serve the consumers' needs.
