Summary of the Streetscape

Introduction
- Project took six years in the making.
- Started the project with a three-page survey for businesses and property owners, asking what they would like
to see in the area.
Development of the Project

6. Day and Night Uses
7. Housing
8. Heart
9. Mixed Use Development
10. Parking

14. Organizations
Parking
- Issues with parking include not enough parking on the street and not enough for the businesses.
Shared parking is suggested, primarily to provide equal opportunity to all businesses. There are about 49 on-street parking spaces added, 13 parking spots at the intersection of Mainstreet and Reading Road.
In total, 62 parking spots have been added and are available to the community.
Sidewalks
- The needs of the pedestrians are highly prioritized in the design. Outdoor seating, cafes, and walkable and attractive sidewalks will be provided.
The sidewalks will vary between 6 and 16 feet wide along the district. They will be wider close to intersections and will be imbedded with story-telling imprints that can be designed and edited by local artists.
Theme
- The theme for the overall streetscape is to compliment the past while creating an environment that reflects today. Downtown has character because of its 120 years of architecture. We want to tell the story of the past, feel at home today, and look forward to tomorrow.
Traffic
- For maximum efficiency, the intersections have been designed in an elliptical shape and will be colored to warn cars of pedestrian passage.
Wayfinding signs will be placed along the street to direct traffic efficiency.
Lighting
- Lighting will be spread out at 50 feet, instead of the recommended 60 feet, creating a brighter district.
The lights will be black and carry the effect of an old-age gaslight with modern technology benefits.
