On Thursday, June 29th, Mason City Council and approximately 50 members of the community were present to be the first to see the downtown Mason streetscape unveiled. The streetscape design evolved over months of discussion and visioning by a 15-member steering committee working with KZF Design, Inc., of Cincinnati, Ohio. The committee recognized that downtown Mason has an eclectic mix of architecture spanning more than 120 years, and they wanted to pay tribute to its evolution.
With this goal in mind, the streetscape design was created to:
- Pay tribute to Mason’s history
- Create a community gathering place for the residents of Mason
- Build an environment that reflects the construction industry of 2006 while honoring architecture that is 50 to 100 years of age.
When the project is complete, consumers will enjoy on-street parking, new landscaping, bright lighting, and a large community plaza to cater to all needs. The new streetscape creates the heart of the Mason community.
