Water Main Construction has Begun

Water main work now going on in downtown Mason is part of Phase 2 of the downtown revitalization. Approximately 2000 linear feet of water main will be replaced and new fire hydrants, valve chambers, and copper service lines will be installed.

Construction began this week on the first section of the main, on West Main Street between Reading Road and Forrest Avenue. Traffic is being maintained in both directions with the use of flaggers.

As work moves across Reading Road next week, construction will take place on the north and center lanes of West Main. Westbound traffic on West Main Street will be detoured south on Mason-Montgomery Road and then west onto Tylersville Road as the primary route. A secondary detour route will direct traffic north on Mason-Montgomery Road, west onto Church Street and south onto North West Street for local traffic.

Eastbound traffic will be be maintained and local traffic, facilities for pedestrians (plates or foot bridges over utility trenches) and vehicular ingress and egress, shall be provided at all times for downtown businesses. The lanes will be closed for about three weeks.
