Downtown Construction Bids Advertised

The Downtown Mason Revitalization Project has been put out to bid.

This means the construction documents for the revitalization project are complete and construction companies are now able to place a bid on the revitalization project. Proposals are due to the city by Thursday, May 3. City Council is expected to select a contractor at the May 14 council meeting.

This bid process takes us into Phase 3 of the Downtown Revitalization project. The bulk of the construction will be completed in this phase as we bury the utilities and bring new sidewalks, a new community plaza, new lighting, and on-street parking to Downtown Mason.

Additionally, the downtown revitalization project has been combined with a road project. Mason-Montgomery Road will be widened between West Main Street and the I&O railroad bridge. This project will bring new sidewalks, bike path, and curb and gutter from Church Street to the bridge. The roadway will be widened from two lanes to three or four lanes from West Main Street to the bridge.

Completing the two projects together will create one point of contact to oversee both projects, coordinate traffic detours, reduce construction delays and minimize the disruption that the construction will cause in the downtown area.

Construction is expected to begin by late June and a concise construction schedule will be released once Council has selected a contractor.
