Weekly Update - June 27, 2007

MAIN STREET UPDATE

ACCOMPLISHED

  • Sidewalks, asphalt and curbs along the north side of Main Street were removed.

  • Temporary sidewalks and drives were added to provide access to businesses on the north side of Main Street.

OUTLOOK FOR THE NEXT TWO WEEKS

  • Sidewalk, asphalt and curb removal will continue.

  • Installation of storm sewers has already begun. Construction crews have encountered some utility conduits that will require some work-arounds, which may add to the original time estimate of 2-3 weeks for this portion of the project.

SAFETY ISSUES

  • There have been some concerns regarding trucks not following detours around downtown. Additional detour signage will be erected June 27 to remedy this issue.

MASON-MONTGOMERY ROAD UPDATE

ACCOMPLISHED

  • Several houses houses along the east side of Mason-Montgomery Road have been removed.

OUTLOOK FOR THE NEXT TWO WEEKS

  • Remaining houses will be removed in preparation for the road widening. All homes are undergoing inspections prior to demolition.

  • Duke Energy will shift utility poles to accommodate the widening of the road.
