Downtown Construction Begins

Construction for Phase 3 of the Downtown Revitalization Project Begins June 11

This third phase of construction focuses on Downtown streetscape improvements including new streetlights, newly paved roads and sidewalks, and realignment of the intersection at Main Street and Reading Road to create a public plaza to serve as a gathering space in the downtown area. All of these improvements support the goal of the Downtown Revitalization Project to create a more attractive and consumer-friendly downtown shopping area, contributing to and supporting economic development and growth of Mason’s central business district.

Detours begin June 13 after school concludes for the year. Detour routes will be posted. During construction, eastbound traffic will be maintained on Main Street while westbound traffic will be detoured south on Mason-Montgomery Road to Tylersville Road for through traffic and north on Mason-Montgomery Road to Church Street for downtown traffic.

“I am very excited to see this phase of the Downtown Revitalization Project come to life and couldn’t be more proud of this community,” said Mayor Charlene A. Pelfrey. “This construction marks another milestone in the progressive and rich history of the City of Mason. This has been dreamed of, planned, and worked on for seven years and now we will see the fruit of our labor. Now that the talk of construction is over, I encourage all of Mason to get behind this project. Please bear with us during construction and, most importantly, support our local businesses.”

Chet Mastalerz, Downtown Mason Association President, agrees with the Mayor’s enthusiasm. “After many years of hard work by the city, the Downtown Mason Association, local business owners, and community volunteers, we are finally at the point where construction can begin. Although there will be some tenuous times during the construction, the end result will be wonderful. Everyone should be congratulated on the effort that has been involved to get us to this momentous point.”

Mainline Road & Bridge was the winning bidder for the construction project and was awarded the contract at the May City Council meeting.
