MAIN STREET UPDATE

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

ACCOMPLISHED

  • Storm sewer installation is mostly complete. Duke Energy is lowering the gas main to assist with putting in crossovers.
  • Signs have been erected along Main Street to assist with parking and access points.

OUTLOOK FOR THE NEXT TWO WEEKS:

  • Conduit installation work continues along the south side of Main Street.
  • Storm sewer installation work should be completed by the end of the week.
  • Installation work will begin on sanitary sewers.
  • Crews will start grading for roadway relocation work.
SAFETY ISSUES:

  • On Friday the 13th, an ominous black cloud hung over work crews as a break in the waterline forced an emergency shutdown, leaving some businesses and residents without water. As an omen of things to come, a break in a nearby gas line occurred afterwards, causing even more difficulties. Luckily, everything was restored the same day. Police and workers continue to work to enforce the detour issue along Church Street. There are still some concerns regarding trucks not following detours around downtown.

MASON-MONTGOMERY ROAD PROJECT

ACCOMPLISHED THUS FAR:

  • Workers have finished water tie-ins. Water services were connected for individual homes.
  • Crews have replaced water valves at the intersection of Church Street and Mason-Montgomery Road.
  • Storm sewer installation is continuing.

OUTLOOK FOR NEXT TWO WEEKS:

  • Storm sewer installation work will continue.
  • Grading will begin on the east side of the road.
  • Duke Energy will begin relocating gas line conflicts for the storm sewer. They are scheduled to start work on July 24.
  • Due to the widening of the road, Duke Energy has marked locations to shift some utility poles. New poles have been delivered. Expect the new poles to go up and utility lines to be transferred within the next 3-4 weeks.
