Downtown Construction
Weekly Update - July 30, 2008

CONSTRUCTION NEWS:

  • Barrett Paving has completed the surface course paving for the project.
  • Kneisel Contracting has completed the street striping except for the integral thermoplastic crosswalk markings. This is being scheduled with their subcontractor to be completed within the next couple of weeks.
  • Mainline Construction continues to work on punch list items, restoration, and site cleanup.

NOTES OF INTEREST:

  • When the striping is complete in downtown Mason, you’ll see a new kind of marking on Main Street.

Twelve-inch by 18” triangles will be painted on the pavement in front of and parallel to one of the crosswalks. They will be supplemented with a “Yield to Pedestrians” sign.

State and local ordinances give the right-of-way to pedestrians in a crosswalk. While it’s the driver’s responsibility to yield to a pedestrian who is clearly walking in the crosswalk, many motorists ignore the law and do not slow down or stop unless there is a traffic signal.

The crosswalks on Main Street at North East Street will include the new striping. The signs and street markings are intended to call attention to the crossing, to promote a pedestrian-friendly downtown, and to enhance the safety and experience of visitors to the downtown area.
