Waste Collection Services
The City of Mason contracts with Rumpke for waste removal services. For your convenience, charges for this utility service are included as part of your monthly utility bill provided from GCWW. For questions or concerns regarding your waste removal service, please call Mason Utility Customer Service at 513-229-8533 or visit the customer service window at the Mason Municipal Center. If you have questions about your waste removal bill, please call GCWW at 513-591-7700.
What are the basic rules of garbage collection?
Everything must be bundled or contained in some way. Each container or bundle must not weigh over 75 pounds, nor can it be longer than 4 feet in length. You can use garbage bags or cans.
If you would like to rent a 95-gallon Rumpke waste wheeler designed to fit Rumpke trucks, please contact Rumpke at 513-742-2900. The price is $3.50 each month. Containers may also be purchased directly from Rumpke.
Place your garbage at the curb the night before your scheduled pickup day. Trash collection begins at 5:00 a.m. in order to have time to reach all customers.
If you have large or extra heavy items, please contact Mason Utility Customer Service in advance of your normal pickup day to learn how to dispose of it properly.
Does the city have a yard waste program?
The yard waste program was discontinued in 2006 because of the success of the city's free brush chipping and fall leaf collection services. Residents are encouraged to compost grass clippings and other yard trimmings whenever possible, and to continue to use the city leaf and brush services to help keep trash disposal costs down. Yard waste that cannot be disposed by any of these methods may be put out with the trash, appropriately contained, on your regular trash day.
Can I recycle?
Yes! The City of Mason participates in a curbside recycling program. Recyclable materials to be collected include newspapers, magazines, glass bottles and jars, aluminum and bi-metal beverage cans, tin food cans, and all plastic #1 and #2 bottles and jars. Recycling is picked up the same day as your garbage collection. Contact the customer service window in the Mason Municipal Center at 513-229-8533 if you do not have a red recycling bin.
How can I recycle or dispose of items that shouldn't be thrown in the trash, like motor oil and compact fluorescent lightbulbs?
Warren County's Solid Waste Management District has a comprehensive list of recycling/disposal outlets for antifreeze, batteries, books, cell phones, computer equipment, fluorescent lamps, metals, motor oil, paint, paper, propane tanks, refrigerators, tires, and more. Click here for information.
Is trash collected on holidays?
Trash collection occurs on all holidays except Christmas and New Year's Day. Trash collection on these two holidays and for all customers whose regular day is later in the week of these holidays will have service a day late. For example, if Christmas falls on Tuesday, then Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday customers will have their trash collected a day late. Friday customers will have service on Saturday.
