New Assistant Police Chief Named

Mason City Manager Eric Hansen has announced the promotion of Police Lieutenant Paul Lindenschmidt to Captain. He will serve as an Assistant Police Chief for the City of Mason.

Captain Lindenschmidt has been employed with the City of Mason Police Department since 1980. He holds a B.A. in Criminal Justice from the University of Cincinnati. He is also a graduate of the Northwestern School of Police Staff and Command, the Police Executive Leadership College, the Certified Law Enforcement Executive program, and the FBI National Academy.

Captain Lindenschmidt served as a patrol officer and supervisor for 17 years and has most recently served as a lieutenant in charge of staff services, handling numerous administrative responsibilities. He assisted with the department’s first—and successful—effort to become an accredited department through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) and has been instrumental in securing reaccreditation at each renewal since then. He is now certified as an assessor for CALEA. He also served for 19 years on the Warren County Tactical Response Unit.

“Paul is extremely knowledgeable and highly qualified for the position,” said Mason Police Chief Ron Ferrell. He added that Captain Lindenschmidt has been a big part of the State of Ohio Accreditation Resource group for many years and remains highly respected in that capacity.  

“Captain Lindenschmidt’s promotion is well earned,” said City Manager Eric Hansen. “Mason has a great police department. Paul’s long history with the department has been key in building it to its current level of excellent service,” he added.

In his new role, Captain Lindenschmidt will continue to supervise the D.A.R.E. unit, School Resource Officer component, court and clerical operations, and the accreditation (CALEA) program. In addition, he will play an expanded role in training and budget preparation.
