2020 Memorial Day Weekend Activities

The Mason community is invited to join together in honoring those individuals who have sacrificed their lives in the line of service by participating in the multiple activities planned for Memorial Day!

Traditional Memorial Day weekend activities will look a little different this year in Mason. But COVID-19 will not stop our ability to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.  The City, in partnership with the American Legion Post 194, Mason City Schools and the Mason Deerfield Chamber are working to provide creative ways in which our residents and businesses can celebrate Memorial Day.  Help us honor those who have given their lives to serve and protect our Nation.

Residents and businesses are encouraged to decorate their homes and storefronts with patriotic spirit and community pride throughout Memorial Day weekend, Saturday, May 23 through Monday, May 25.

Mason Veterans and active military are then encouraged to explore the community and send in a picture of their favorite patriotic decorated house or business. Veterans and active military who participate in this activity will be eligible to receive a Come Together Mason e-gift card and residents and businesses that have been nominated will be entered in a drawing to win a $100 Come Together Mason e-gift card! The Come Together Mason e-gift card is a gift card that can be sent electronically and redeemed at multiple participating small businesses in Mason.

Veterans and active military are invited to share their favorite pictures by emailing Jenna Hurley at jhurley@masonoh.org or posting on social media using the hashtag #MasonMemorialDay2020. The Come Together Mason e-gift card is a gift card that can be sent electronically and redeemed at multiple participating small businesses in Mason. Gift card winners will be contacted by no later than Friday, May 29.

Join The American Legion Post 194 for a virtual Memorial Day ceremony to keep this tradition alive. The ceremony will be live streamed through the Legion’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/MasonAmericanLegion/ or by searching The American Legion Post 194. The ceremony will take place on Monday, May 25 beginning at 12:00 p.m. and will include the raising of the American flag in honor those veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice.
