A Seat at the Table

The City of Mason is launching the A Seat at the Table program to enhance community connection and involvement. Strong communities are built on connection, conversation and a shared commitment to listening and understanding. The City of Mason believes some of the most meaningful progress happens not just in Council chambers, but in the everyday conversations where residents feel comfortable sharing their ideas, experiences and concerns.

This summer, the City of Mason is creating opportunities to strengthen community connection and engagement with the launch of the program A Seat at the Table – a new opportunity designed to bring residents and City Council members together in a more informal, welcoming setting to have open dialogue and meaningful conversations to inspire change and move the community forward.

A Seat at the Table was thoughtfully branded to reinforce the message that residents do not need special knowledge, connections or status to participate in community engagement opportunities. The table is warm, familiar, and relational. The program’s message is simple yet strong: You belong here, and your voice matters. It implies collaboration, not one-way communication and frames engagement as something done with the community and not to the community. It communicates that the City is opening doors, reducing barriers and inviting under-represented groups by creating equitable access to decision-making. It suggests honest dialogue, transparency and a willingness to listen and adjust based on feedback.

Throughout the summer, residents will have multiple opportunities to take part in A Seat at the Table with a series of gatherings scheduled across the community – and the flexibility to add more as interest grows. These conversations will take place in a variety of settings and times – from City facilities to local small businesses and community partner spaces, making it easy and convenient for residents to participate. Some sessions may also feature specific topics of interest to help guide discussion and encourage thoughtful dialogue, while others will remain open-ended to ensure every voice and perspective has a place at the table.

We invite all residents to consider taking part in A Seat at the Table and help shape the future of the community. We hope you will consider having a seat at the table!
