2020 Red, Rhythm and Boom

The traditional Red, Rhythm and Boom event will look a little different this year in Mason. But COVID-19 won’t stop our ability to come together as a community and celebrate American independence.  The City, in partnership with local businesses, is working to provide ways in which Mason residents and businesses can celebrate Red, Rhythm and Boom.  Help us make this year a truly special time for our veterans, active military, residents, businesses and visiting families.

Beginning Friday, July 3 enjoy patriotic videos and participate in multiple virtual activities planned for Red, Rhythm and Boom and Independence Day Weekend!

THANK YOU LOCAL BUSINESSES

Although residents aren’t able to grab their favorite Red, Rhythm and Boom snack at the event this year, local businesses are inviting you to stop in for some tasty treats. Support your local small businesses this weekend!

PATRIOTIC SIDEWALK CHALK CONTEST

Residents and businesses are encouraged to decorate their sidewalks with patriotic spirit throughout Independence Day weekend, Friday, July 3 through Sunday, July 5.

The community is then encouraged to explore sidewalks around town and send in a picture of their favorite patriotic sidewalk chalk artwork to RedRhythmBoom@masonoh.org  or tag #2020RedRhythmBoom on social media. You’ll be entered in a drawing to win a gift card to use at local businesses.

5K PATRIOTIC BIKE RIDE

Kick your weekend off with a dose of fresh air, sunshine, and family fun! Enjoy the outdoors Friday, July 3 through Sunday, July 5 with a virtual Red, Rhythm and Boom 5k Bike Ride.  With over 25 miles of bike paths in the City, pedal your way through your favorite 5k route. Click here for Mason’s updated bike path map.

Complete your 5k (3.1 miles) and submit a photo of those who completed and where you biked via social media using #2020RedRhythmBoom or via email at RedRhythmBoom@masonoh.org. BONUS: Be entered in a drawing to win a gift card if you dress in patriotic gear or decorate your bike with red, white and blue.

VISIT MASON’S VETERAN’S MEMORIAL

Take time to visit Mason’s Veteran Memorial this weekend located at 6000 Mason-Montgomery Road in Mason, in front of the Mason Municipal Center. At the head of the memorial, a flag proudly waves above a wall depicting the five branches of the service: Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines, and Navy. At the base of the wall and around the flag are memorial bricks for veterans. The main feature of the memorial is a set of 10 pillars representing the 10 major conflicts in American history. The height of each pillar is proportional to the number of casualties in the war. At the end of the row is a low stone representing the hope for peace and the end to casualties in war. An eternal flame at the lower end of the memorial will burn until all prisoners of war and missing in action are returned to American soil. It stands in front of a wall of tears that represents the sorrows of all those affected by war.

Please visit the app store on your phone, iPad, or tablet to download the Mason Veterans Memorial App and find the location of your brick paver.

CELEBRATING RED, RHYTHM AND BOOM

We appreciate your involvement as we celebrate Red, Rhythm and Boom virtually this year. What’s your favorite part of Mason’s Red, Rhythm and Boom each year? Let’s hear from Mason’s residents, students, and staff.

MASON’S BANNER PROGRAM

While visiting local businesses downtown this weekend, check out the new Veteran’s Banners displayed along Mason Montgomery Road in front of the Municipal Center. The Military Street Banner Program is sponsored by the American Legion Post 194 and the VFW Post 9622 in partnership with the City of Mason. This program is intended to provide the opportunity to salute our brave men and women who are currently serving or have served in the military by displaying a median street banner in the City of Mason for patriotic occasions.
